  3. Synchronization: Concurrent processes often need to access shared resources. Synchronization mechanisms, such as locks, semaphores, or monitors, are used to ensure that shared data is accessed safely and consistently across different threads or processes.

    • Example: When multiple threads need to update a shared counter, synchronization ensures that the counter is updated correctly without corruption.

  5. Communication: In concurrent systems, processes or threads often need to communicate with each other. This can be done through shared memory or message-passing mechanisms. Proper communication ensures that tasks can coordinate and share data effectively.

  6. Deadlock Avoidance: Deadlock occurs when two or more processes are waiting for each other to release resources, resulting in an indefinite waiting state. The principle of deadlock avoidance includes strategies like resource ordering, avoidance algorithms (e.g., Banker's Algorithm), and timeout mechanisms to prevent systems from getting stuck.

    • Example: A database transaction system that ensures no two processes hold onto resources while waiting for each other to release them.
