The Amazon interview process generally consists of 4 to 5 stages, depending on the role you're applying for. Here’s an overview of the main stages:

1. Application Review/Screening

This is the initial stage where your resume is reviewed by Amazon's recruiting team. If your qualifications match the role, you’ll move forward to the next step.

2. Phone Screen (Technical or Behavioral)

There are usually one or two phone interviews, where you'll be asked either behavioral questions or technical coding questions depending on the role:

  • Technical Roles: Expect coding challenges and algorithmic problems. This may be done through a shared coding platform.
  • Non-Technical Roles: Focuses more on behavioral questions that align with Amazon’s Leadership Principles.

3. Onsite or Virtual Interviews (Loop)

If you pass the phone screen, you’ll be invited to a series of 4 to 5 interviews, often referred to as the "interview loop." These are typically back-to-back interviews with team members, hiring managers, and a Bar Raiser.

  • Technical Interviews: You’ll face system design questions, coding problems, and technical deep dives.
  • Behavioral Interviews: You’ll be asked in-depth questions about your past experiences, focusing on how well you demonstrate Amazon's Leadership Principles.
  • Bar Raiser Interview: A unique aspect of Amazon’s process, the Bar Raiser ensures that only candidates who exceed Amazon’s high hiring bar are hired.

4. Final Decision and Offer

After the onsite interviews, the team will meet to discuss your performance. The feedback from all interviewers, especially the Bar Raiser, will be considered. If selected, you’ll receive a formal offer within a few days.

5. Background Check and Onboarding

Once you accept the offer, Amazon will conduct a background check. After successful completion, you’ll begin the onboarding process.

Summary of Stages:

  1. Application Review
  2. Phone Screen (Technical or Behavioral)
  3. Onsite/Virtual Interview Loop (including the Bar Raiser)
  4. Final Decision and Offer
  5. Background Check and Onboarding

This structured process ensures that Amazon hires candidates who are technically strong, culturally fit, and aligned with the company's core values.
